Sometimes it takes adversity to push forward plans that are often put on the back burner. And, that is what COVID-19 has done for The Southern Pen Bookshop. For the past two years, we've focused on growing our retail location, hosting author events, and sharing our love for independently published books.
Of course, we've done all the basic social media stuff like Facebook, Instagram, website, and even this blog. But, building our virtual connections has been an item on our "to-do" list. Then a little unknown virus that started in a tiny village far away impacted everything.
Like every small business, we had to shutter our retail location and stay home. What had started as a year of promise and dreams of expansion vanished as fast as toilet paper. It was time to stand in front of the drawing board and create new goals. Goals that would continue to promote the authors, who have entrusted their books with us to share with readers, and grow our "little" bookshop. The ideas began to flow from inspirations around us and those back burner ideas came into focus. Ideas that we originally had at the beginning such as hosting a book trivia night.
While we may not be able to greet you in person and give you a handshake or a good ole' Southern Hug, we can still bring our authors and their books to you virtually. We look forward to virtually connecting with you.
